All students are matched with mentors who advocate for them, while cheering them on as they work to graduation. They are available whenever students may need. Mentoring & Support Services How We Help Every student at Association House is matched with a mentor. That mentor is their champion, advocate, and confidant as they work toward graduation. Most students see their mentor daily, and our mentors are always available for a check-in. Our mentoring programs offer different levels of support to meet the unique needs of our students. Academic Advising & Compass Mentoring The Academic Advisor meets with students regularly to ensure they are taking the classes they need to graduate. Compass mentoring provides students with a mentor to help motivate and assist them through their time at Association House High School. The mentor addresses how work, friends, and family could be impacting school and helps students create a plan to achieve personal and academic goals. Meet Your Mentor YES Mentoring Youth Experiencing Success (YES) offers wrap-around services to ensure that students are on track with their academic and employment goals while addressing barriers that may arise. Services include individual mentoring, group mentoring, family counseling referrals, advocacy at school and with outside agencies, health advocacy, career readiness, field trips, and post-secondary support. Meet Your Mentor RSP Mentoring Re-enrolled Student Project (RSP) focuses on getting students re-enrolled and supporting them to attain their high school diploma and continuing their studies at a college or place into a job. The program also represents and advocates for individual students by providing one-on-one support and counseling; helping with attendance problems and social issues; recommending methods for improving time management and goal setting skills. Meet Your Mentor YS3 Mentoring Youth Scholars, Skills and Service (YS3) is a collaborative program between Alternative Schools Network and the Department of Child and Family Services to provide programming and mentoring for Cook County youth in care between the ages of 15 and 21 who are looking to get their high school diploma. Specifically at AHHS, we work with our youth to provide wrap-around services that include mental health and employment. We have after school programming, monthly recreational field trips and paid incentives for youth participation in programming. Wade Senior Director of Clinical Operations Tanya joined Association House in 2013 and currently serves as our Senior Director of Clinical Operations where she monitors program performance, provides clinical supervision and direction, and ensures participants receive high-quality clinical services and care. Tanya is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and originally joined Association House as a Continuity of Care Coordinator. Tanya graduated from Hofstra University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. In 1998, Tanya moved to Chicago and received a Master of Social Work degree from Loyola University Chicago. Tanya then honed her clinical skills as a trainer, diagnostician, and therapist within Child Welfare and Community Mental Health. Tanya works at Association House because she has a personal commitment to clear the path for participants and staff alike to realize their full potential. She believes that Association House leads by example; opens doors, encourages ideas, nurtures healing, and empowers change.

I have over seven years of experience developing and implementing programs to assist underserved, racial and ethnic minority, and at-risk urban populations. I also hold a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Loyola University Chicago and a Master of Science in Nonprofit Management from Spertus Institute. What about your work inspires you? I strongly believe that Association House continues in the settlement house tradition of working toward a healthier community. I am proud and inspired to work with a dedicated team, who work to empower and elevate residents in areas of education, mental health, and employment. What's a fun fact about yourself? < Back Juan Carlos Linares President and CEO Juan Carlos Linares is President and CEO of Association House of Chicago, where he is inspired by the staff’s deep commitment to serving the thousands of participants who rely on the organization each year and by its 127-year legacy of strengthening lives, families, and communities. An attorney since 2002, Juan Carlos has held leadership roles across the nonprofit, government, and civic sectors. He also serves as a part-time Lecturer-in-Law at the University of Chicago Law School. Raised in a mixed-immigrant household — his mother from Peru and his father from Guatemala — Juan Carlos personally benefited from social service programs, including food pantries and bilingual early childhood education. These formative experiences inform his leadership of Association House as it honors its history, advances its growth, and partners with communities to build strong, stable, and equitable futures.

Audra attended Valparaiso University School of Law and now she’s the President and CEO of the Shriver Center on Poverty Law here in Chicago. < Back Audra Wilson Audra attended Bucknell University and received her bachelor’s in International Relations and Spanish, and then attended Valparaiso University School of Law, where she obtained her JD. After working in the education industry and sitting in various director roles after college, Audra now fills the position of President and CEO of the Shriver Center on Poverty Law here in Chicago. Kurz Ronald received his Bachelor’s in Economics from Miami University and an MBA in Finance from Northwestern. His livelihood has been as a stockbroker for A.G. Becker, Smith Barney, and RBC. Most recently, he has begun a one-man investment management shop. Why I Serve? Ronald was introduced to Association House as a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church in Evanston. The Director, Hank Murray, turned out to be his high school Youth Minister. He lured Ronald in because he found that the work they were doing in job training, job placement, and life skills was the most important thing you could do. Fifty-four years later, Ronald is still invested in the House because it continues to get people into life-sustaining positions.
