We offer a structured residential program for adults with severe or persistent mental illness or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Dulcinea How We Help We offer a structured living setting for adults with severe and persistent mental illness or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. The program’s overall goal is for participants build their skills to function independently and confidently in the community. What to Expect Independent living, social, adaptive and coping skill building activities that include groups and individual sessions Medication Monitoring and Training Case Management and Community Support Crisis Prevention and Intervention Services Access to psychiatric and medical care Individualized treatment plans to support goal achievement Opportunities to develop natural supports Eligibility & Enrollment This program serves Medicaid-eligible individuals with severe mental health or substance use disorder. Adults 18+ years Adults with a mental health diagnosis or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder. Adults with functional living needs who require assistance with activities of daily living and support to transition into the community. Medicaid and source of income (SSI/SSDI) Do not require 24 hour medical attention Ability to self-administer own medications Ability to ascend and descend stairs without assistance (there are stairs to enter the building and to access the floors with bedrooms). History of psychiatric hospitalizations “When I first came here, I was going through hard changes because I had nowhere to live. I was so happy that they (AHC) gave me a hand, It felt like they understood me. When I was in the hospital I lost my apartment, and they gave me a place to stay. I made friends with lots of people here, they helped me a lot. ” - Association House Participant 88% of participants improved their Independent Living Skills in order to obtain their main goal of moving into the community independently. Wanting more, a few years later, Jose accepted a role as President and CEO of Northwest Community Credit Union. Jose loves to get involved in the community in his free time. He serves as a member on many other boards in the Chicagoland area. Why I Serve? Jose works for the credit union industry which operates on the philosophy of “people helping people” resulting in personal and economic health. Behavioral Health Pre-Apprenticeship How does a pre-apprenticeship help? The Association House Behavioral Health Pre-Apprenticeship program is your first step toward a career in compassion. With this free 5-week course, you'll open pathways toward Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS), Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CRSS), Mobile Crisis Response, or Behavioral Health Case Management careers. Whether you're looking for immediate employment, or want to expand your knowledge with a formal apprenticeship, we will help you make the connection. Students will complete the course with a Mental Health First Aid certification to safely intervene in a mental health crisis. Plus, you'll receive courses & workshops in the many behavioral health career paths available to you, enabling you to speak the language of the industry, and nail your interviews. Workforce Development Our Workforce Development programs offer classes for education and economic improvement. Our programs are designed to empower individuals to advance their knowledge and skills for employment. We adapt our programs to the needs of our community. We help with financial training, technology training, culinary training, and general employment. All our participants have access to support services to address barriers to success. Through these integrated programs, participants have the necessary tools to help stabilize their lives, build confidence in their careers, and move towards economic self-sufficiency. Association House Kitchen Association House Kitchen is a fast-paced, 8-week food preparation training and subsidized employment program. MHFA shows individuals how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness in people from their everyday lives. Join us for a training! Mental Health Awareness Training How We Help Mental Health First Aid and Question, Persuade, Refer are nationally recognized trainings that teach participants how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness in their family, friends, community, and workplaces. Life-Saving Training, For Anyone Mental Health First Aid Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. This training is for anyone. In the Mental Health First Aid course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. Association House offers Adult and Youth Mental Health First Aid Trainings in English and Spanish, in-person or virtually. The in-person training requires an 8-hour time commitment. The virtual training is six hours with pre-work required. Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Training QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — three simple yet powerful steps that anyone can learn to help prevent suicide and support someone in crisis. In just one hour, participants will learn to: Recognize the warning signs of suicide Offer hope in a supportive and direct way Refer someone to appropriate resources for help QPR is evidence-based, widely taught, and designed for anyone — from community members to professionals — who wants to be equipped to respond effectively in the face of a mental health crisis. “Mental Health Awareness Training gave me the confidence to ask directly if the person is suicidal, and if they have an active plan. PSR is a day program offering group and individual services to build relationships and teach independent living skills to maximize self-sufficiency. Psychosocial Rehabilitation How We Help Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) is a therapeutic day program that offers group and individual services aimed at building relationships and teaching independent living skills to maximize participants’ self-sufficiency and role function in the community. Our Approach Participants engage in the program anywhere between six months and two years depending on their individual needs and treatment goals. The program covers a wide range of topics, designed to help participants manage their mental illness, stay healthy, and increase their ability to live independently. The program meets Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. Breakfast and lunch are served daily, and several breaks are scheduled throughout the day. All services are provided in Spanish and English. Experiences in the program: Groups and individual skill building activities’ Attend local events and attractions Recreational activities Mental health advocacy opportunities NAMI walk for mental health awareness Visiting local museums and music events Through group we learn: Coping Skills and Self Advocacy Symptom Management for: Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia Medication Management Healthy Living and Relationships Social and Communication Skills Safety at Home and in the Community Money Management and Decision Making "In PSR, I learned anger management, communication skills, and how to take care of my mental health. If it hadn’t been for Association House, I would probably be dead or living on the streets." - Program Participant Eligibility & Costs We provide services to individuals with Medicaid coverage at no cost to the participant. We accept all Medicaid plans. We are unable to accept any private insurance. 92% of participants will increase their understanding/knowledge regarding their mental illness and medicine management.
