Brooke previously worked as a consultant in the international development field, focused on economic growth and development around the world, including in South Sudan, Iraq, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Armenia, among others. Brooke holds an MBA from the University of Notre Dame and a BA from Georgetown University. Why I Serve? Brooke believes deeply in the power of people to lift each other up to make the world a better place. She is proud to be part of an organization that sees the potential of each person and works tirelessly to meet each person where he, she, or they are. She is impressed with the impact that Association House has had in the community and the dedication of the staff, who care for people in the unique ways they need.

  • Jaime Garcia | Association House

    < Back Jaime Garcia Senior Director of Human Resources Jaime oversees Association House’s Human Resources Department. He manages everyday operations, provides training and consultation to staff regarding human resources policies and procedures and employment regulations; oversees benefits administration; ensures compliance with local, state and federal employment regulations; develops and modifies human resource policies and procedures. He joined the organization in 2003 as a part-time Human Resources Clerk and with much dedication, Jaime gained tremendous experience and knowledge, leading him to where he is today. He attended the University of Illinois at Chicago and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Management. Jaime also has an MBA from National-Louis University along with a certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) from DePaul University. He is also an active member of the Greater Chicagoland Not-for-Profit Human Resources Directors Group and the Chicago Alliance for Collaborative Effort (CACE) Talent/HR Leaders. He is inspired by the mission of the organization and the services that the staff provide to individuals and families in the community.

    Becky’s a Public Finance Attorney with Foley and Lardner LLP, where she negotiates and closes transactions across the country. < Back Becky Brueckel Before retiring, Becky was a Public Finance Attorney with Foley and Lardner LLP. In her role, she negotiated and closed tax-exempt, taxable financings and post-issuance transactions across the country for health care systems, universities, museums, and other non-profit organizations. She also acted as a bond counsel, underwriter’s counsel, disclosure counsel, and borrower’s counsel in over 1,000 new issues and post-issuance transactions. Becky obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language and Literature from Yale University. She then attended Boston University School of Law, where she received her Juris Doctor of Law. Why I Serve? Becky met Harriet in the late 2000s when she worked on financing for Association House and decided that, when she moved back to the City, she would love to join the House’s board. In 2017, she decided it was time to become an official board member, all because of Harriet’s dedication to the House’s missions was so inspiring.

I oversee community health education and intervention initiatives, as well as workforce development and technology training programs. I have over seven years of experience developing and implementing programs to assist underserved, racial and ethnic minority, and at-risk urban populations. I also hold a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Loyola University Chicago and a Master of Science in Nonprofit Management from Spertus Institute. What about your work inspires you? I strongly believe that Association House continues in the settlement house tradition of working toward a healthier community. I am proud and inspired to work with a dedicated team, who work to empower and elevate residents in areas of education, mental health, and employment. What's a fun fact about yourself? I am a life-long learner. During the pandemic, I ran with my passion for skin care and became a licensed esthetician.     We work to find loving and safe temporary homes for children in foster care while simultaneously working on longterm stable solutions for all parties involved. Foster Care How We Help Foster care can be tough on kids. When a child comes to Association House, we find a loving temporary home. Then, we work with all involved to find a safe permanent solution. Through years of experience, we have changed the lives of so many children via a safe return home or adoption. We pride ourselves on having the largest fully bilingual foster care team in the community, and we place a large emphasis on cultural relevance. Safe Homes From an apartment, to a townhouse, to a stand alone with a picket fence. The type of home doesn't matter. We ensure all of our Foster Parents provide safe and loving homes. Stabilizing Family of Origin When possible, our goal is to have kids reunited with their family of origin. To make sure these environments are stable enough for return, we work with families to provide them the tools and resources to be successful together. Cultural Competency At Association House, we have fostered a community built on the ability to interact genuinely and respectfully with others, no matter what. As the largest fully-bilingual child welfare team in Chicago, Association House serves many Latinx families. We work in partnership with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). Our goal is to ensure the safety, well-being, and healthy development of children. We address trauma and promote resilience. We help parents and families develop nurturing and safe relationships with their children.     An 8-week food prep training and subsidized employment program for returning and justice-involved citizens to prepare for positions in professional kitchens. Association House Kitchen What We Do Association House Kitchen is a fast-paced, 8-week pre-apprenticeship food preparation training and subsidized employment program for returning and justice-involved citizens designed to equip graduates for positions in professional kitchens. Still deciding if a culinary career is right for you? Culinary Fundamentals is a shorter, 4-week course designed for individuals who want to try out the field before committing to a longer program. Participants learn basic kitchen skills, food safety, and what it’s like to work in a professional kitchen. This course helps you build confidence, explore your interests, and decide your next step—whether that’s moving into our pre-apprenticeship program or starting an entry-level job in food service. Kitchen Skills In this program you'll learn: Industry standards and expectations Culinary terminology Classical knife skills Proper food preparation Techniques for maximum yield Use of most common professional kitchen tools and equipment Graduates will also earn their ServSafe Illinois Food Handler certificate. Personal Growth Our unique approach pairs culinary training with critical reflection through Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT). MRT is highly-effective in creating a positive identity, improving decision-making, and helping individuals recognize the social consequences of actions. Participants will receive two MRT sessions weekly during the program and for 4-6 weeks following graduation. How We Are Different In addition to hands-on training , our Culinary Pre-Apprenticeship Program provides one-on-one support and wraparound services to help you successfully transition into registered apprenticeships and employment after the program. Participants have access to an Income Support Specialist, Case Managers, a Career Navigator, Mental Health Counselors, and more. We take the time to get to know you, support your goals, and invest in you as a whole person so you’re prepared for what comes next.     < Back Tom Mathews Director of Facilities Tom manages the maintenance of the buildings, grounds, and equipment of Association House’s 153,000 square foot community center and three residential locations. He assures safe and efficient operations and meets agency, accreditation, funder, State Fire Marshall and Department of Building standards. His background includes thorough knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and control systems including computerized building automation and energy management systems. Tom loves his work at Association House, enjoys helping to make a difference, and is happy to be an integral part of the leadership to continue our mission. Prior to Association House, Tom served as the Operations Manager at AvAirPros serving Midway Airport where he was responsible for maintenance, contracts, operations, and general day-to-day interactions of various operational equipment and facilities systems. In 2005, he adopted his youngest daughter from China. Recently, his eldest daughter has blessed him with two granddaughters. Tom holds a certification in HVAC, a universal refrigeration license, and a stationary engineer license and a Bachelors of Science degree from Southern Illinois University’s College of Engineering. Finally, he has a certificate in e-Business Strategy from University of Chicago.
