Program Volunteer Opportunities

Microsoft Office Instructor(s)

  • Saturdays; schedule is very flexible and would require a commitment of 2-3  consecutive Saturdays with breaks in between courses as needed.
  • Facilitate our Saturday Microsoft Office Workshops.
  • Assist adult learners to learn the fundamental and intermediate skills in the suite of Microsoft Office 2010 products. The course is designed to prepare a student to enter employment in an office setting or assist working people to enhance their skills in order to advance their careers.
  • The instructor will use curriculum from the MS Office Study Guide and developed by Association House to instruct student in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Bilingual Spanish Basic Digital Literacy Instructor

  • Saturdays; schedule is very flexible and would require a commitment of 2-3  consecutive Saturdays with breaks in between courses as needed.
  • Facilitate our Saturday Basic Computer Education course in Spanish.
  • Assist adult learners to learn the fundamentals of digital literacy – using the mouse, navigating the Windows environment, using Gmail, Google searches, and the basis of Microsoft Word.
  • This position requires patience as most of the students have very little knowledge of computers and need slow-paced, step by step instructions to learn.

Adult Education: English GED or Literacy Tutor

  • Monday -Thursday, 9:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.; Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Support adult students as they continue their education in the classroom environment to prepare for the GED examination, improve their literacy skills

Adult Group Home, Buena Vista: Weekend Visiting/Activities

  • Saturday-Sunday, Afternoons and Evenings
  • Spend time during the weekends with adults with developmental disabilities who live in a group home setting. Assist with outings that may include movies, dinner out, Chicago festivals and shows. Activities are always supervised by a trained staff member.

Food Pantry: Stock Pantry and Help Prepare Food Packages

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.
  • Unload and stock food deliveries into the pantry, prepare and deliver pantry food bags during open hours, and help clean and maintain pantry.

Family Literacy Program: Child Care Aide

  • Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • Provide child sitting
  • Facillitate reading, writing, and learning activities with children
  • Assist with educational activities

One-Time Volunteer Opportunities

Special Event Assistant

Help us make our special events a success by taking part in organizing our various fundraising and program activities and celebrations–or join us at these events to help with set-up and clean-up, greeting, registration, and refreshments. Special events are held at various times throughout the year.

Holiday Provisions

During November through December each year, you can spread holidays cheer to Association House participants by organizing your own food, toy or clothing drive. Help is also needed for gift sorting.
