Fitness 4 Kids

The Fitness 4 Kids Health Fair is an annual event that aims to increase community knowledge about the risks associated with inactivity and obesity. Recent research from Chicago Public Schools (CPS) indicates that in Humboldt Park, nearly half (48%) of CPS school children age 2-12 are obese. More specifically by the time students enter kindergarten, 42% of Latinos, and 38% of African Americans are overweight.

Addressing obesity requires resources which many community residents do not have. The fair focuses on preventing future chronic health issues in youth, who have a better chance at changing their behaviors and committing to their health goals, compared to obese adults who have a significant amount weight to lose, and may already experience chronic health issues.

Fitness 4 Kids will offer participants free health screenings, raffles, and healthy snacks, as well as health information in both English and Spanish.  The health fair will also feature physical activities.

All the activities and services at the event are at no cost to attendees and are provided by Association House staff, the Association House Prevention & Educational Development division, and more than 20 community groups and businesses.

Fitness 4 Kids (F4K) helps families to develop and maintain an informed, healthy lifestyle by promoting healthy eating habits, engagement in fitness activities, and health education opportunities.

An annual tradition, Fitness 4 Kids delivers fun physical activities, health-based information, community resources, and necessary medical and dental health care access to more than 500 children and families from Chicago’s under-resourced West Side neighborhoods. This culminating event highlights all of the evidence-based health & wellness programs we provide our community throughout the year.

Our community looks to Association House for access to quality healthcare and education, so that they may plan for brighter futures.  For the Back-to-School season, we throw a big summer event to prepare children and families for a healthy start for the new school year.  A special thanks to all of our corporate support, who help us to impact our community! Thanks BMO Harris Bank, Comcast, Chapman & Cutler, and Trane and its employees for contributing over $5,000 in financial and in-kind backpack and supplies support!
