Association House of Chicago is grateful to be a recipient of the UnidosUS Digital Innovation grant made possible through the support of Comcast NBC Universal. This generous funding enables us to expand our Workforce Development offerings into the emerging technology field. Since 1988, The Association House of Chicago is a member of the UnidosUS Affiliate Network, building a stronger America by creating opportunities for Latinos.

In response to a request of technology programming by participants, we are now able to provide courses that will allow a path to certification. The grant has allowed for AHC to find certifications that are recognized for the courses we currently provide and options that will be phased in over the course of the next three years. The existing Digital Literacy & Basic Computer Education training will now work toward obtaining an IC3 Global Standard 5 (GS5) certificate. The test examines the ability of Computing Fundamentals, Living Online and Key Applications. Our Microsoft Office Suite Training will result in Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification.

AHC met with representatives from Wright College of the City Colleges of Chicago and Catalyte and Illinois Skills Match for Chicagoland’s Future to receive insight on what certifications would maximize the work of our participants. Courses to be integrated into our programming include the CompTIA A+ certification, along with cybersecurity, as key skills that are in high demand by tech companies. CompTIA A+ is integral for those looking to find a role in tech support or IT operational capacities. Upon completion, participants can transition into an Associate’s Degree program or work with AHC for employment placement. The Ethical Hacking Association (E|HA) certification will also be available to support those wishing to explore cybersecurity options.

In addition to those certifications, AHC will continue to have open lab services for Internet, WIFI and fax access for adults and children who need support.

Year one of the grant plan will start with IC3 certification, followed by examining outcomes and integration of the CompTIA A+ and (E|HA) offerings in year two and three, respectively.

The technology offerings will be provided to 60 people annually. The first cohort will begin this July.
