Overview

The Auxiliary Board is a group of young professionals dedicated to supporting and creating awareness of Association House’s mission to provide comprehensive, collaborative, and effective programs in English and Spanish, promote health and wellness, and create opportunities for educational and economic advancement.  Additionally, the purpose of the Auxiliary Board is:

  • Raise awareness of Association House of Chicago’s programs
  • Outreach and recruitment to a younger segment of individuals ages 22-35
  • Enhance resource development and expand donor and volunteer base
  • Create a pathway to leadership for future service on the governing Board of Directors

Benefits

  • Serve on select committees of the Association House’s Board of Directors including Marketing and Development, Annual Benefit Host Committee and Finance and Audit.
  • Network with the Board of Directors and active business and civic leaders at events.
  • Commence a track towards future opportunities to serve on the Board of Directors.
  • Receive acknowledgement in our Annual Benefit program, Annual Report, and website.
  • Contribute to the legacy of service for one of the oldest nonprofit organizations in Chicagoland.

Expectations

  • Be an Ambassador of Association House of Chicago and raise awareness about its programs
  • Volunteer! (see below for full list of volunteer opportunities)
    • Serve in one of our programs – host a high school student a day at the office, tutor an adult learner, share your professional expertise, participate in fun activities with individuals with developmental disabilities, conduct mock interviews for job training participants, and more; or
    • Coordinate and participate in special fundraising/outreach events, hosted by the Auxiliary Board to expand resources for Association House such as the Annual Benefit Dinner, Toy Drive, Fitness 4 Kids Health Fair, and Appeals for Individual Gifts.
  • Have a great idea for a social event that can raise dollars and recruit new volunteers? Let us know!
  • Provide entrée to potential donors, including foundations, corporations, churches, civic organizations or individual donors.
  • Make an annual gift of $100 to the Association House of Chicago, which is tax deductible. Terms for Auxiliary Board Members are for one year!

Auxiliary Board Volunteer Opportunities

Interested in hosting a high school student at your workplace? Our El Cuatro Año High School students are eager to learn about various professions and workplaces. A day is too long? How about a morning or afternoon?

Love to tutor? Our participants in Adult Education Program are working hard to improve their math and literacy skills. Volunteers tutor these individuals so they may achieve their education goals which can lead to enhanced job opportunities. M-Th, 9:30am-4:30pm.

Want to share your professional expertise? Our staff often receives inquires for individuals who want to share their knowledge and volunteer their time.

  • Consider participating in one of our committees: Marketing and Development, Finance and Audit or Host Committee for our Annual Benefit.
  • Conduct mock interviews for job training participants.
  • Fluent in financial literacy? Conduct a workshop for our participants.
  • Another idea? Let us know and we can try to link you with an organizational need.

How about just having fun and sharing your time? Our participants in Life Skills Education Program and Buenavista residents agree! Fun and sharing are good. Life Skills Education offers individuals with developmental disabilities the training and support to help them become more independent in their daily life. Coordinate or participate in activities such as:

  • Sports or museum outings
  • Cooking or baking
  • Knitting and creating arts and crafts
  • Playing volleyball, kick ball, board games or Wii!

Do you like parties or special events?

  • Coordinate and participate in special fundraising/outreach events to expand resources, donors and volunteers for Association House.
  • Conduct a Toy Drive among your friends or co-workers for our Holiday Smiles Toy Drive. Each year, Association House provides gifts of clothes, toys, books and games to 1,000 children and youth.
  • Volunteer for Fitness 4 Kids Health Fair – participate in that day of the event health and fitness activities or collect school supplies for low income children in the community.
  • Organize a food drive among co-workers, friends and family. Association House provides emergency food packages throughout the year.

Volunteer Committees

Finance & Audit Committee
The Finance and Audit Committee is commissioned to oversee the judicious discharge of Association House’s funds and guarantee the fiscal solvency of the agency through the monitoring of a comprehensive fiscal system is in place. Additionally this committee reviews and approves the preparation and financial data related to the organization’s annual audit. The staff liaisons are the President and Controller.

Marketing and Development Committee
The Marketing and Development Committee is a committee of Association House of Chicago’s Board of Directors consisting of Board members and non-Board member volunteers. Committee members serve as a role model for resource development with all board and committee members. Additionally, committee members:

  • Make a financial or in-kind contribution to the extent of one’s capacity as required by full Board of Directors
  • Solicit contributions from contacts and/or serve as pathways to contributions
  • Assist with the recruitment of new members with influence, affluence and/or access to new funders and donors.

The staff liaisons are the Development Director and Marketing & Special Events Manager.

Host Committee
The Host Committee is a sub-committee of the Marketing and Development Committee, and provides support to fundraising strategies for the Annual Benefit – Faces of Hope – such as securing sponsorships, auction, raffle and Grub Grab items. The staff liaisons are the Marketing & Special Events Manager and Development Associate.
